Switzerland: School Childrens' National Future Day in BCT's Development Center

National Future Day

Each year, Buss ChemTech AG (BCT) takes part in the National Future Day when schoolchildren ages 10 to 15 (5th to 7th grade) have the chance to accompany a friend or family member that works at BCT to their workplace. The main aim of the National Future Day is to promote career and life planning for schoolchildren that fosters equal opportunity by providing new perspectives for girls and boys. They discover professions and areas of work and life where their gender is underrepresented and, most importantly, they learn numerous opportunities exist that they may never have realized were open to them.

This year’s participants were hosted by one of BCT’s process chemists, Mr. Benedikt Müller, and his colleagues in BCT’s technical center. There, they had the chance to become familiar with many aspects of working in a laboratory setting including safety procedures, chemicals handling, and analytical methods. The day came to an exciting end when they were able to leave for home with a t-shirt dyed with Indigo that they themselves synthesized in the lab!

Participation in Switzerland’s National Future Day is just one way in which Buss ChemTech demonstrates its commitment to foster scientific education. To read about other ways we support scientific education, see this article about the “Buss ChemTech Prize”.
