BUSS ChemTech delivers first integrated HCR/HHCR plant
Client
People's Republic of China
Plant Capacity
30,000 mtpy DCPD Hydrogenated Resins
Start-up
2024
Scope of work
Development services, Basic Engineering Package, Key Equipment supply (all non-Key Equipment specified) and onsite start-up and commissioning services.
Project Description
Based only on lab-scale tests to characterize the client’s raw material, we delivered a Technology Package for an integrated polymerization and hydrogenation plant to produce base and water white hydrocarbon resins.
Key features
Scale up factor of 1:30,000. Integrated plant composing the polymerization and the hydrogenation steps including a solvent recovery unit for each step.
Modified DCPD resins are tackifying and modifying resins based on C5 and hydrocarbon monomers.
Modified DCPD resins have grown in acceptance and volume; they are now recognized as the leading synthetic resins for pressure sensitive adhesives and hot melts.
Because of their unique chemistry, modified DCPD resins (base and hydrogenated) can be used in many of the applications where most other hydrocarbon resins do not adequately perform. Their light colour, high tack properties, low specific gravity, low odour, oxidative stability, and day-to-day consistency of properties make these resins excellent tackifiers for pressure sensitive adhesives.
In 2019, the client approached BUSS ChemTech to learn more about our Hydrocarbon Resin Technology and evaluate its suitability for a DCPD plant being considered. A sample of the client’s raw material was evaluated. As our technology is quite robust and our experience encompasses a broad range of raw materials, this was the only testing required to be able to propose a design with performance guarantees to the client.
They decided to make the investment in 2021. The plant was start-up late last year.
